Marvel's "Echo"

Let’s talk about Echo, that new Marvel Spotlight limited series that got blown our way, one day after another, in late December

All five episodes of the series are available on Disney+ and Hulu.

The “Echo” in the Marvel Comics universe is very different than the TV version; you can see her origin in comics here.

You can purchase Children of a Lesser God here, and yes – it’s still worth it. Marlee Matlin is an international treasure in at least ten different ways. Stream or buy here.

The Miracle Worker is more myth than biopic, as we’ve learned in the years since it was made, but… who cares? The now nearly ancient black-and-white film from 1962 (yikes!), based, in turn, on a Broadway play, is still available for streaming or purchase, and it’s still brilliant. If you don’t cry at the ‘breakthrough’ moment, then you have no soul. Get it here.

Only Murders in the Building features a deaf character (and even more rare: a hearing father who signs!) in a role that really doesn’t require the character to be deaf. That’s not what he’s about, and it’s a welcome change of pace. It’s also a great series by any measure. Currently only available on Hulu.

The Amazing Race Season 35 (Good Lord, really?) featured a hearing, signing son and his deaf father – a great team. Check it out here.

The Great British Bake-Off Season Season 11 featured a young deaf woman who wouldn’t let her hearing deter her one bit. Check out her adventure here on Netflix.
